This listing is for an 92.5 silver pendant from the himalayan kingdom of Nepal that is set with a beautiful example of turquoise stone...it is the only turquoise that I currently have up with this color to it. This pendant measures approximately 1 1/2" high with the clasp x 3/4" wide. The stone pill box is a kind of colorful marble from northern India and measures 2" wide. The name Turquoise is possibly from the French word pierre turquin for "blue stone", or from Turquie, the french word for Turkey where it is thought to have been discovered. The oldest turquoise mines are located in Alimersai Mountain in Persia (Iran) and in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. Turquoise is found in desert regions worldwide. According to legend, Native Americans believed if turquoise was affixed to their bow, the arrow would always hit its mark. They also believed turquoise would bring happiness and good fortune. Turquoise has a hardness of 6 and a specific gravity of 2.60-2.85. Turquoise is the national gemstone of Iran and is one of December's birthstones.
