This beautiful pair of earrings is made with 92.5 silver and set with turquoise and garnet from the himalayan kingdom of Nepal. The bowl is marble carved in India. and measures 1 1/2" wide. The earrings measure approximately 7/8" high from the bottom of the turquoise stone to the top of the garnet x 3/8" wide. Turquoise: Turquoise is a porous, non-translucent, semi-precious stone found in solid masses in the cracks of aluminum-rich rock. It is actually a hydrated phosphate of copper & aluminum and can range in color from sky blue to green. The finest turquoise is said to be Persian (Iranian) turquoise which is robin's egg blue and has no matrix - streaks of the mother stone from which they were found. North American turquoise is greener and has matrix streaks. Over years of touching the stone, oil from your skin is absorbed by the stone and it can change color slightly. The name Turquoise is possibly from the French word pierre turquin for "blue stone", or from Turquie, the french word for Turkey where it is thought to have been discovered. The oldest turquoise mines are located in Alimersai Mountain in Persia (Iran) and in the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. Turquoise is found in desert regions worldwide. According to legend, Native Americans believed if turquoise was affixed to their bow, the arrow would always hit its mark. They also believed turquoise would bring happiness and good fortune. Turquoise has a hardness of 6 and a specific gravity of 2.60-2.85. Turquoise is the national gemstone of Iran and is one of December's birthstones.

Garnet: GARNET : Garnets are hard, durable stones belonging to a group of semi-precious silicates which have the greatest variety in color of any mineral. Red garnet is the birthstone for January and is said to symbolize faith, truth, grace, sincerity, loyalty and fidelity. Garnet has a hardness of 6-8 and a specific gravity of 3.5 - 4.3.
