MAGNIFICENT VICTORIAN PICKLE - OLIVE - FRUIT CASTOR

LOVELY AMBER STAR AND CANE PATTERN INSERT

 Very Large Frame and Bowl

ca. 1865 - 1890

This is a beautiful Victorian condiment castor that was made by the Tufts silver co. in the late 1800's. The Tufts silver co. was located in Boston, Massachusetts and were  well known for their craftsmanship and attention to detail.  The castor set has an amber bowl insert that has a cane and star pattern motif and is in perfect condition.  The silver plate stand has a very unique looking spoon/fork that hangs from a support on the handle.  The stand is exquisite in detail, with ornate Victorian designs on the base and filigree with flowers throughout.  The stand is about 13.5 inches in height, and 9.25 inches wide.  The set is also clearly hallmarked on the bottom with the Tufts logo and production numbers.  Though this set has been in my Aunt's collection for probably over 40 years or more, it may have had some repair work on the stand because I think I see a solder spot, but this may be from the original production, just cannot be sure.   Some of the filigree may also need minor repairs from aging.  Overall, it is quite impressive and would certainly look beautiful on a table setting.

This antique came out of my Aunt's estate on Nantucket.  My Aunt was a nurse in WW1 stationed in France and then spent years as an artist and antiquarian traveling the world.  She loved antiques and taking care of them.  Please view my other items as we are selling her home belongings over the coming year and she has some exquisite pieces.  I hope this goes to a nice home that loves antiques or coins as much as she did.   Also, we wish to extend our heart felt thanks to all of you buyers that have purchased antiques from my Aunt's estate this past year, the funds are all being used to support college educations.
