From the introduction..."This is a collection of my favorite horror paintings, and it's fitting to have the together in on volume. they stand apart from my other work, like a gang of "bad" kid hanging out together in the far corner of the schoolyard.
Years before I became a professional fantasy artist I knew that horror themes would occupy an important place in the spectrum of my work. My interest in horror grew along with similar interests in related genres of fantasy: science fiction, sword and sorcery, and mythology for example. It is something I have never relinquished, so there are representative examples of horror painting throughout the 20 plus years of my professional career.

The events and thoughts I experienced during the creation of these paintings are linked to the other circumstances and thoughts, and these can go up some unexpected paths...provided I have the proper stimulus or give myself time to remember them. Arguably the most popular creator of fantastic art of the latter 20th century, Michael Whelan is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the WORLD FANTASY AWARD and an unprecedented 3 HUGO's for his work.
Below you will find a small sampling. Mind you they pale in comparison. Unfortunately, the one of the Boogyman did not come out. You will have to buy the book to see that one! Here they are:

 The book measures roughly 11"x17" and this special edition comes with a signed bookplate by Michael Whelan stating it's limited status and print number of which this is number 530 (I bought two at once, this one and number 531 which has already sold!). To put that into perspective, assuming these were only distributed to US destinations equally, that is only 15 per state, and NONE for the rest of the world! I'd say this is pretty limited...
It also states in the title page that the prints are frameable. They are CERTAINLY large enough to frame and I suppose one could deface the book and remove one of them to do so, but I can't imagine anyone doing that to such a fine portfolio.
The book comes in a nice leather slipcase as shown below-right, with gilt lettering, and is simply exquisite. For anyone who loves SciFi artwork, this is an incredible set, not very likely to be seen again any time soon! A physical description follows...

I have been collecting books and music for over 35 years and have amassed an enormous collection with many duplicates. I do not subscribe to "grading" as it is so subjective and most of the "graders" truly have no clue! Therefore I'll simply describe things in normal English!

Insurance is for loss as well as damage and as a result, I am ONLY shipping domestic packages insured! If it gets lost or damaged in freight, I will be able to replace or refund your purchase. NO INSURANCE, NO RECOURSE! Unfortunately, insurance is no longer offered by the US Post Office for international destinations.
Media Mail (once known as 4th class mail) is a special class of postage for books, music, videos and other printed media available within the US and territories. It is far less expensive than Priority Mail, but - it ..... is ........... slooowwwww!!!! Despite USPS claims of 3-9 day delivery times, MEDIA MAIL CAN actually TAKE UP TO 3 WEEKS to arrive, and their tracking info is frequently not updated until it actually arrives, making that feature pretty useless! PLEASE remember this when you leave feedback scores as the choice is yours and not my fault if it takes a long time to get there! If you want it in a week or less, you are going to have to bite the bullet and pay for Priority Mail which will get it there in 2-3 working days, 99% of the time, but it is more expensive. Basically, the choice is yours, but if you choose media mail, please don't write to me in 5 days asking where your package is, because the post office will have it and most of the time, they don't have a clue! International deliveries all go by Priority Mail and usually arrive within 1-2 weeks.
