Description: A  Late C19th/Early C20th Original Victorian Edwardian Period Antique Frank Reynolds Dickensian Caricature Watercolor Painting with Bodycolour on artist's paper dating circa 1900, framed - approx 27 X 12 inches (68.58 X 30.48cm). The  Late C19th/Early C20th Original Victorian Edwardian Period Antique Frank Reynolds Dickensian Caricature Watercolor Painting with Bodycolour depicts a fabulous triptych study of three beautifully observed Victorian gentlemen in caricature. At the top a military man is caught in an expression of frustration, fist clenched, clutching his brow. Central is a gent in a smoking jacket; pensive, contemplating or perhaps scheming. And at the bottom a man toys with a revolver, his expression far from innocent. The caricatures are beautifully executed, bright and defined and set off well within the later frame. Date: The picture may date to circa 1900 but it is difficult to be certain.

Artist Biography: Frank Reynolds (1876-1953) Son of an artist, he studied at Heatherley's School of Art Reynolds had a drawing called A provincial theatre company on tour published in The Graphic on 30 November 1901. In 1906 he began contributing to Punch Magazine and was regularly published within its pages during World War I. He was well known for his many illustrations in several books by Charles Dickens, including David Copperfield (c1911), The Pickwick Papers (c1912) and The Old Curiosity Shop (c1913). He succeeded F.H. Townsend as the Art Editor for Punch. One of his more notable works is entitled Jingle. His journal contributions included London Magazine The Sketch Windsor Magazine, and The Illustrated London News.
