Antique Carved Marble Male/Female signed G. Ruggeri

ESTATE ITEMS THIS WEEK WILL BE LISTED WITH NO HIDDEN RESERVES. PLEASE SEE ALL OF MY AUCTIONS FOR STERLING, CLOISONNE, AND VARIOUS OTHER COLLECTIBLE/DECORATIVE ITEMS - JUST IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS. This auction is for an exquisitely detailed marble carved statue of a man and woman and signed G. Ruggeri. This statue has exceptional proportions and a lifelike quality. I have found out that G. Ruggeri was a prominent sculptor and designer of Italy who worked for Tito Bianchi. I have seen other plaster or faux marble pieces but nothing like this. The piece came from the estate of a very wealthy Italian family. I am not certain, but really feel this is an original piece by this artist - you decide. It measures 7 inches by 2 .75 inches at the base and 10.5 inches tall. The only damage that I can find is a surface crack on the man's arm in photo 3 and a small chip in the lady's thigh seen in photo 9. I am not sure if this is a mythical or historical representation with the lion's head at the base. Please see the photos for complete details. Please ask if you have any questions.
