This is a very unique, American Victorian Combination Stroller / High Chair. It is made of Oak and has a rich, Deep Oak Patina.
This piece is an example of the high quality of the workmanship of the Victorian Era.
At the back of the piece is a beautiful Baluster Turned Handle with Bobbin Turned Embellishments. The Handle is connected to Curving Supports which create an X-Frame. The Supports flow downward to the Wheels at the front. The other Diagonal Supports starts under the Seat and flow downward to attach to the Rear Wheels.
The Supports are connected at the front with two beautifully turned Stetchers. They are connected at the rear with one.
The Chair is quite beautiful. It has a Deep Curved Crest Rail which is carved in a Rococo Pattern of Scrolls, Shells and Acanthus Leaves. Six Bobbin Turned Spindles flow from rear of the Seat to the Crest Rail. They are flanked by elegant, Baluster Turned Stiles with Pointed Finials.
The Circular Arms are connected to the Seat with four Bobbin and Baluster Turned Spindles at each side.
The Seat is padded and upholstered with a gold damask.
A Tray is connected by hardware to the Right Arm. It can be raised and securely attached to the Left Arm.
There is a Foot Rest at the front of the Chair. There is a Fluted Panel of Oak between the Seat and the Foot Rest. It is beautifully carved.
The piece has a clever mechanism underneath, so that by merely raising the front of the seat you can then lower the Seat downward and transform it into a stroller.
This is a gorgeous collectible piece of Americana. It is quite rare. It is in very good condition. It will make a lovely conversation piece. If you are expecting a baby, this lovely piece would make an elegant addition to a nursery.
