"Prince Elementary School is an inner-city public school nestled in some of the lowest cost housing of Tucson; without much active parent participation to initiate and support fundraisers. 97% of the students recieve a free breakfast and lunch and usually have only a single parent or grandparent caring for them. Prince has an excellent, qualified and dedicated teaching staff, but the kids need more than they recieve in a normal school day. They need regular field trips beyond their "walk to school" neighborhoods. They need tutoring and mentoring programs before and after school. They need up- to -date playground equipment and take- home books. A majority of the children come from homes where incarceration of a family member is the norm rather than the exception. With budget cuts and classroom sizes increasing, we want to give the kids a chance to experience more and reach beyond what they can already grasp."
