ISBN 0-8076-0873-4. University of California , Berkeley professor MILDRED ADAMS first met Federico Garcia Lorca in Granada, Spain, ESPANA. Best known for her translations of Ortega and Gasset, her biography is considered one of the most important. This literary survey of an enigmatic figure who lived life to the fullest includes the dark and paradoxical side of his human nature. His homosexual relationship with modern painter extraordinaire and his sister as well fueled his controversy in the 1920's when certain behaviors were not as socially acceptable in any field. His sexual "defect" and his life-long struggle became the artistic manifestation of his creations. This book was published in 1977 and it is important to note that Garcia Lorca's intimate life details were not allowed partial or full expression until the death of General Franco in the year 1975 |
