A Beautiful fine porcelain, complete fish set in excellent unused condition. There is some wear on the hand painted gold along the edges, from polishing. The high gloss glazing shines like a mirror and the colors are bright and vivid. There are no cracks, chips, scratches, stains, crazing, repairs, touch ups, etc..
It is very hard to notice, but there is what appears to be a slight imperfection worth noting. Under the right edge of the platter there is a slight indentation to the glazing where apparently a small flat nick was smoothed out prior to the glazing process. It can only be noticed by very closely examining the underside and does not take away from the beauty or quality of the piece.
This rare complete set includes: 1 Platter - 23" X 9 1/2" X 1 1/2" high with it's pedestal base. 1 Sauce Bowl w/ drip plate - 8 1/4" X 5 1/4" X 3 3/4" high with it's pedestal base 12 plates - (Three of each fish scene.) all plates measures 8 5/8 " across and have a pedestal base. The plates that are farther away in the picture appear smaller but they are all the same size.
Every piece has Hermann Ohme's trademark under- glaze on the bottom which includes a Crown over O H and the word Germany. They were made in Silesia, Germany sometime around the 1880's to 1890's. Silesia later became part of Western Poland and is called Walbrzych.
Engraved on the bottom of Platter is the number 276 with a line under it and the number 12 under that. This may indicate that this platter was the 12th one made out of a total of 276 pieces produced.
The scenes show various and beautifully detailed multi-colored fish in light blue water with plant-life and clouds. The outer perimeters of each piece has raised ornate scrolling and the color turns from bright white to cobalt blue with real hand painted gold along the edges.
This is an extremely rare find and I have never seen this overall design before. This is also the most beautiful and well preserved antique fish set I have ever seen. It would make a great addition to any collection or a wonderful display for a fine restaurant.
The set comes from a large private collection of various antiques that has recently been taken out of storage after more than 40 years. I will continue listing more and more pieces from the collection as I find the time.
