3/4x5x6' solid southern yellow long leaf pine... the same material used for hundreds of years , in structural applications. No we don't use eastern-or "red" pine-it's too soft! All the old cotton mills, up into maine hauled southen yellow 1300 miles to get the hardness/strength they needed, (without freeways). Picture on right our prefinished with a non toxic catalyzed urethane. All the "50-5000" year "warranties" use very toxic UV cured carcogenic agents. Most made in beautiful downtown Bejing. Clean air capital of asia. Most big name flooring is "Bejing Toxic", cheap, no epa hassles..If you are buying prefinished ,from a national chain-it is a toxic UV cured finish. Fine untill you have to sand to refinish (this is an easily scratched surface). At that time cover all A/C ducts, the dust is carcogenic , to pets you and children. It will raise very large blisters on most people. On second exposure breathing is affec ted. Our finish takes overnight to cure- so of course the big guys can't use it too slow.Their toxic UV finish is very hard-easy to scratch-hard to wear through-Soooo the "warranty" only replaces the spots that wear through! Another slick sales pitch.. We start with selected, high density material.. Sort for clear or knotty, then fill defects with a cross linking (hardening) filler, stack to dry. Then abrasive plane to thickness, A planer with steel cutters will tear out pine-resulting in a rough or wavey surface. An abrasive planer uses belts to cut the thickness but an abrasive planer costs 40X more than a planer. Our surface is a lot better.. After abrasive planing we machine the tongue and groove, and prefinish, using either hardening oil, or urethane.. both non toxic. A #2 pine floor is low density-soft and has blue stain., also has loose knots,& machining chatter, and lots of missing edges.. we do not sell a #2 pine. We offer our high density long leaf either unfinished some stain, ,unfilled, at $1.49, Or filled, sanded ready to finish at $1.79,(You cannot fill and sand on site for .30sqft), or prefinished at $2.99. The $1.49 product is tight knot, graded for density, has some blue stain depending on time of year. We also manufacture engineered pine , and other species. Our product is totally different , the wear layer on our engineered is 5-6 mils THICK, all the others are 1.5-3 mils thin -too thin to ever sand and refinish -if you can stand the toxic dust! If we prefinish your floor.. you have two non toxic finish choices . Polyurethane which is a surface finish similar in appearance to the toxic big boy finishes, or, hardening oil-a penetrating oil finish that is very natural in look, never needs sanding to recoat, we are the only plant offering this hard oil finish. It is slow to apply, but the results are awesome. The Guggenheim museum, and Quantas VIP lounge at LAX both have this hard oil finish on their floors. We are having problems getting enough hi grade unstained material.. this has pushed lead times out.. please order early as we cannot and will not run low grade material. As mills have closed material availability has become a problem.
