Decades before Ronan Tynan and his peers adopted the Irish Tenors name, many gifted singers from Ireland fit that description. This outstanding Legacy compilation presents songs by many of these performers, including Dennis Day, John McCormack, Phil Regan, and Morton Downey (TV personality Morton Downey Jr.'s father). A number of these hearty tracks date back to the early 20th century, including McCormack's proud "Wearing of the Green," Regan's buoyant "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling," and Downey's lilting "My Wild Irish Rose," all of which feature lush orchestral backing. While the disc is perfect for celebrating St. Patrick's Day (see Day's boisterous opening "St. Patrick's Day Parade"), it also serves the greater purpose of honoring Ireland's esteemed vocal traditions.
