I cleaned the recording heads, camcorder plays and records clear without any dropouts.This camera will play back any minidv tape and your can transfer your tapes to DVD, it uses same technology that is used in most minidv standalone vcr's that cost over $400. Any way I have compared the image quality between the DCR-TRV280 (also selling on ebay) and the DCR-TRV17 and guess what? The 17 is better. Way better. The colours are more real and better in lower light situations than the 280.  Secondly the 17 has a better lens than the trv280 and a lager chip. 5 % larger with less pixels. So what does that mean? Larger and less pixels means faster reaction time for satuaration giving an over all better picture (less "noise").  This camera has original Carl Zeiss lens, most newer camcorders come with very cheap lens. Why? Better all around performance in "difficicult " light situations.

This camcorder will transfer all your minidv memories to DVD, it had original price $699 just a few years ago, it has all features as any minidv vcr, firewire1394 port for digital editing, S-video port for your DVD recorder and USB port for a computer.
