PICASSO 80 WORKS FROM 1900 to 1971
OILS, GOUACHES, SCULPTURE and DRAWINGS
The following is from the introduction by Horst Keller. I found most of it babble, but many would parallel it to Picasso's work itself. I for one, love the images in this book, although I could do without the babble, but you may find it interesting:
Picasso's drawings, whose lines, put end to end, would circle the earth several times, are not only an especially accurate chart of the tides of his changing feelings, from the celebration of life to an outcry at its misfortunes; they tell us much more: that he is undisputed master of everything he does, that he conjures up history and just as easily lets it sink again into oblivion, the he himself has remained untouched and unsullied and actually hidden, for longer than our century has lasted. Hidden, but not invisible.
Except for a very few seriocomic sketches commemoration his first proud debut on the Paris art stage at the turn of the century, Picasso has always spoken from behind a mask, like the chorus in a Greek tragedy. his questioning eye still peers form behind it onto the stage of his activity, noting the continual change of scene, giving the clues for changing motifs to appear. Inexorably, his eye follows the moving line, the gently constructive line and the recurring magnificently destructive one which transforms harmony and euphony, lasting happiness and peace, into pain.
The hidden Picasso has long known everything there is to know: burlesque is tragic, the halves of a face can attack each other in hate, Eros is reduced to surprised persistence when the object of his attention seems our of his reach - when confronted with the profound otherness of the other. Openhearted, now means open-bodied, laughter is grief. Words commingle. Attempts to describe them in words collapse. It is really more like a rainbow than a filament encircling the world, this many-tiered dance of figures Picasso has drawn, and he is always present in them, creating and repudiating, weaving and unravelling: for his prints and drawings are always within sight of each other, no matter how much truth there is in the axiom that their creator has mastered form and its vicissitudes better than any other. >And now the pictures. These come nowhere near the actual, but they are all pictures rarely included in Picasso books, and if this were not a duplicate copy, I'd never get rid of it.
A rarely seen book in any condition, this is offered for your consideration. A physical description follows....

Regarding Auctions & the Item...
I am a private collector of art, books, music and "stuff" and am very picky about what I buy. I don't like surprises when I buy things from auctions any more than you do. I promise everything I know about this item is in this description. I also do not subscribe to "grading" as frankly, grading is totally inconsistent and most of the "graders" TRULY have no clue, so I will use plain English if it is OK with you...
*This is a brand new softcover book in exceptionally nice condition. The books spine is square tight and solid, pages are clean, crisp and bright, unmarked and unbent. It may have been browsed thru, but not much, in fact it looks as if it has just been sitting on a shelf for many years and the outside, as can be seen by the pictures has aged a tad, but is otherwise very clean! All in all, it is A REALLY, REALLY NICE book! Enjoy!
I've sold many, many books and music items on eBay and have only received one complaint in thousands of auctions about the accuracy in my descriptions.

SHIPPING INFO: IMPORTANT!! I can ONLY SHIP to the address as noted in PAYPAL'S "TRANSACTION DETAILS". If you want it shipped to an alternate location, you will need to register that address BEFORE paying or it will be shipped to the registered address. Shipping is only $4.00 + $1.75 for optional insurance via media mail or $7.00 for Priority Mail, insurance optional BUT HIGHTLY RECOMMENDED. International will be more.
PLEASE NOTE: Over the years, I have had a LOT of packages lost or delayed by the post office. Apparently their heightened security includes LOSING packages. Insurance is for loss as well as damage and as a result, I am ONLY shipping domestic packages insured! If it gets lost or damaged in freight, I will be able to replace or refund your purchase. NO INSURANCE, NO RECOURSE! Unfortunately, insurance is no longer offered by the US Post Office for international destinations.
Media Mail (once known as 4th class mail) is a special class of postage for books, music, videos and other printed media available within the US and territories. It is far less expensive than Priority Mail, but - it ..... is ........... slooowwwww!!!! Despite USPS claims of 3-9 day delivery times, media mail CAN actually take up to 3 weeks to arrive, and their tracking info is frequently not updated until it actually arrives, making that feature pretty useless! If you want it in a week or less, you are going to have to bite the bullet and pay for Priority Mail which will get it there in 2-3 working days, 99% of the time, but it is more expensive. Basically, the choice is yours, but if you choose media mail, please don't write to me in 5 days asking where your package is, because the post office will have it and most of the time, they don't have a clue! International deliveries all go by Priority Mail and usually arrive within 1-2 weeks.
