The second collection of hit singles by one of contemporary country's most popular male singers is every bit as solid as Chesney's first best-of set. Although Chesney adopted a slightly different musical style during the period covered here--a wayfarer beach bum persona heavily influenced by Jimmy Buffett--these songs stress the craft and songwriting smarts at the core of his work. Chesney's music, as evinced on II, is a mingling of Buffett-style island tunes, soft rock, country, and pop, an agreeable mixture best heard on singles like these. Highlights include the new song, "Out Last Night," as well as "Life In Fast Forward" and "Beer In Mexico."
