Up for auction is a vintage wind-up 8-day mantel clock estimated to be more than 40 years old.
This beautiful clock features adjustable movement that keeps good time
The German Urgos Movement is fully enclosed in a metal housing free from dust. Operation is "time only" with a balance wheel mechanism instead of a pendulum. It is a Seth Thomas styled clock kit.
The fast-slow lever is accessible by removing four screws, in tact, from the face. Then on the back of the movement, I located the speed-set slider lever, unlabeled.
This clock received little use except as a beautiful display piece.
I have it displayed in the center of my studio and it is very popular.
It only takes about 6 half turns every 7 days with a large easy to use key that provides most of the leverage. The key stores conveniently in the bottom of the clock.
Item was recently oiled by a professional clock repair center and ticks smoothly and quietly.
This clock comes with the original key. Wear to the key and the clock winding post are minimal, unscathed and unworn. Clock is very likely of German origin. As I said, ticking is pleasant, light, clear and consistent. This clock was not built to chime. Suitable even for sleeping rooms to create the ultimate warm decor. Front glass is undamaged and lower pane is a mirror in perfect condition.
Item is beautifully crafted by hand. Door hinges are good and the the door stays shut by its tight fit with no other latch or closure. The ornate hands are strong, authentic, true, unbent, undamaged, secure, as new. Base is solid, un-cracked, not scratched. It fires right up with a wind or two. The wood is a medium to dark brown, between a typical oak or walnut color. It is a lighter solid wood underneath that was expertly stained by hand and certainly not veneer. I would call it solid oak, with darker stain, if I had to say.
If you enjoy a nice genuine article of a timepiece, this will truly please you for ease of maintenance, accurate timekeeping, and stately and timeless aesthetics. Saves on battery expenses.
I carefully removed the face, not the cover, only to adjust the speed. It is adjusted perfectly. I decided not to take it apart again for photographs as I want to preserve this clock as much as possible. I guarantee this clock as described or your money back.
Clock in the pictures is the clock you will receive. Please examine photos carefully to believe this great condition and appearance.
Thanks.Good luck bidding...
