At least nine of the 80 new poems included here have appeared before in Poetry, Shendandoah, The Southern Review, The News and Observer, and Double Take. And one of the new poems -- representative of the vital and personal nature of this collection -- was chosen by Adrienne Rich and David Lehman for inclusion in the 1996 edition of Best American Poetry.
