FROG TIDBITS
There are numerous species of frogs found throughout the world. Many scientists believe the health of the frog population mirrors the health of the eco system as a whole.
Those with the frog as their totem frequently have to learn lessons of survival along the way.
Like the frog metamorphasizing and surviving from a tadpole into a frog, humans go through cycles in different stages of life.
Here's your "science lesson" and there will be a test!!!
To remember the difference between frogs and toads just think, "leap frog", therefore frogs leap with their long back legs while toads hop with their shorter more powerful back legs.
A frogs eyes bulge out from the sides of the head they are able to see in almost all directions. These sharp eyes help them capture prey, mostly bugs and insects and also gives them excellent depth perception.
Frogs have a well developed sense of hearing. Behind each eye is a large membrane, sort of an external eardrum that picks up sound waves and transmits them to the inner ear and then the brain.
Frogs produce sound similar to the way humans do by forcing air from the lungs over the vocal cords.
Frogs are also strong swimmers from their beginnings in the water. Some tree frogs have the interesting characteristic of being able to change color from bright red, green and orange to blues.
The color change is brought about by stimuli of light and moisture which create physiological changes and cause expansion or contraction of the pigment cells in the skin.
The bright colors are exhibited on the back, sides, thighs and belly and are believed to serve as species recognition and confusing predators.
Native people's of Central and South America used to dip the tips of their arrows into containers of poison from the poison dart frog.
If a frog /toad leaps into your life or dreams it’s trying to tell you to delve deeper into your creative side.
Finding your animal totem is a spiritual journey.
The animal you feel most attracted to or kinship with is probably your main animals energy that will be with you all your life. There are other animal spirits that will come and go depending upon your needs at the time.
Each day upon rising step into nature, physically or mentally. The first animal you see or feel, become it. Take on it's characteristics and allow it to become part of you. In this way a deeper insight about yourself is gained as you feel the animal's spirit awakening inside you.
The direction your animal totem is facing when see it in your dreams or in real life also has meaning.
Facing North means you need to learn lessons of using your potential. Your element is the earth, which is symbolic of wisdom, patience and prosperity. Grounding aspects of mind, body and spirit. What you gain in knowledge and teachings will be used later. Listen to your intuitions and trust that your inner pathway will be revealed to you at the right time.
Facing East is learning the lessons of responsible relationships. Your element is air, which links heaven and earth allowing you to walk between the spiritual and the physical using dreams and visions. Be open to any revelations you get for they will give you guidance to grow spiritually within and without.
Facing West is the lesson of adaptability. Water is your element, which always takes the path of less resistance. This allows you to adapt according to the needs in all areas of your life. To do this requires a shift in consciousness to be able to flow like water over given circumstances.
Facing South are the lessons of life, death and rebirth. Fire is your element and it rules the heart, passions and love that help to regenerate lives. Change must be met with strength and endurance knowing you will awaken anew, fresh and purified. All of life is a cycle, there are many transition periods we must go Through. During these times we learn, grow and expand our self-awareness.
MAMA'S FROGS
Usually post a rescue picture so you can see what your purchases help to support but now and then it's nice to see one of our own animals. Thankfully frogs don't eat much.
I'm having to eat my words all over the place because who would have thought after all these years of "not being interested" in frogs, I'd fall in love with some.
These are Oriental Leaf frogs. They were given to me as a birthday gift in 08.
There is Huey because he's huge and my favorite. Another is Lewy because he's the laziest and rarely moves other than to eat and last is Dewey because he has droopy eye spikes.
Only the males croak and it's hard to imagine till you hear it but it sounds just like your smoke detector going off.
I believe we have one male and 2 females as only one croaks and you could set a clock by him.
Are they just the cutest things you've ever seen or what!!!!
