As the title states and the pictures show.This is a wonderful  pair of 2 Illustrations done in Casein on board Frannie & Zooey from Salinger's book Catcher in the Rye. The Paintings were done  by listed artist and world Famous Children's author Russell Hoban. In the early 1960s Our family  owned an Art Gallery next door to Hirschl & Adler on East 67th Street in NY. Braverman's  Gallery Sport in Art which featured only Sporting themes in Paintings and Sculptures. At the time Russell Hoban was Time Inc's and Sports Illustrated  featured Illustrator and Hoban got commissions from Sports Illustrated to do  several Paintings on my Dad Big Al Braverman who was a mover and shaker in the world of Boxing and a relationship grew between the two. We had a 1 man show for Hoban in the early 60s and as a nice gesture after the show completed He gave this set of 3 Casein Paintings now up for sale to the family. At the show each framed Illustration was priced at $2000.00 each and this was 1962.Please note that the Painting of boy in chair is no longer available  Hoban went on with his wife to become major writers and Illustrators of Childrens books in London (Please do a google search on Hoban)I have had these  paintings in storage for almost 50 years and the time has now come to divest myself of these Paintings .I have pictured the 2 Illustrations the boy in chair again is not available A local TV Studio rented it and lost the Painting in production..but they paid dearly.   Some pages from Time Magazine are still available the September 15th 1961 issue. It was this issue where Time Inc pictured Hobans works which are pictured below. Hoban was a great artist a great Man but it seems his destiny was in Childrens books where he was and is still extremely successful The Paintings below measure approx 24" by 36" unframed. There are no repairs or restorations to any of the 2.As an aside I was to an auction in Beacon NY where a Boxing Painting by Hoban went on the block and at the Hall I looked at the verso On back of the Painting was written Al Braverman corner man along with Freddie Brown trainer and fighter Andre Tessier..That work will of course never be sold and its a wonderful Illustration but I must part with Hobans Catcher in the Rye Paintings. I had a copy of the Time Mag issue which had a feature story on the Paintings and Hoban but alas I cannot find the issue again it is the Sept 15, 1961 issue, I'm sure it can be obtained and I would suggest the new owners reach out and get that particular issue. Hobans work is top shelf in the world of Illustrators and the Paintings should bring the new owner much joy and a very strong Art Investment.  THE PICTURES below BEST DESCRIBE WHAT CONDITION Paintings are in They are on board and have no damages other then a few light sratches quite hard to see.
