Please peruse the following article which would help you to choose 100% silk sheets.
1. Silk Charmeuse: satin fabric made of unboiled mulberry raw silk. With at least five tricot & weft lines in each dense and solid stitch, shiny and smooth in surface, and dull and crepe underside, silk charmeuse is the major category of silk products using the most sophisticated technologies and highest level of process, with the most luxury appearance and extremely soft hand feel.
2. Habutai: silk fabric made of unboiled mulberry raw silk in plain stitches, which are the simplest fabric stitches inter-woven by tricot & weft lines. This kind of fabric is solid and straight in texture but insufficient in softness and without luster. Habutai is usually sand washed to improve its softness. Silk charmeuse is of higher value than habutai of the same momme weight (m/m).
3. Sand washing: refer to the process where boiled silk is put into alkaline solution of auxiliary agent (containing swelling agent and softener, etc.) and is made into a silk product by applying mechanic friction and water flow impact. Sand washed silk has fine and dense floss on the fabric surface, resulting in very soft and smooth hand feel, thick and spongy fullness, high elastic resilience, strong vivacity of the fabric rib, and other remarkable features. The true reason behind the improved softness is that the fall of the fabric has been boosted after sand washing.
4. Momme weight: GSM refers to grams per square meter of fabric. It is the major computation unit for fabric texture, usually expressed in momme weight (m/m). Silk is so much finer than cotton or other textile fabric, it is measure by momme weight. With higher m/m, the fabric is thicker in texture and of higher value due to the higher content of silk per square meter.
"Queensilk" sheets are 100% silk charmeuse with high quality 19 momme weight to create truly luxurious bedding. Most 100% silk sheets on the market are made of 15m/m silk fabric due to the current rocketing price of mulberry raw silk. The charmeuse silk sheets which are below 16 m/m are easily ripped and insufficiently durable.

Tips for Silk
The brocade, floral charmeuse, georgette, pleuche, the Zhang flannelette, also the feathery gauze and raw silk cloth can only be dry-cleaned. Some silk cloth that does washable has to be cleaned by certain methods according to its characteristics. Here're some tips for silk cloth maintaining:
-
Fuscous silk clothing or cloth should be separated from light-colored ones.
-
Silk cloth smeared or stained by sweats should be washed or soaked in clean water immediately. The water temperature mustn't exceed 30-Celsius degree.
-
When washing silk cloth, the detergent should be acid or slightly alkaline. Silk can stand acid but can't coexist with alkali. Therefore strong alkaline detergent or soap should be avoided so that the silk cloth can be protected from damage. Combined with the calcium and magnesium ions in the water, soap can build up soap scum and grasp onto the fabric, thus make silk turn yellow and coarse. Excluded silk detergent will be highly recommended.
-
Silk cloth had better be washed by hands. Hard twisting, rubbing and brushing should be avoided by all means. It should be gently kneaded before rinsed by clean water. The water inside should be squeezed gently by hand or by towel. Finally it should be air dried in a cool place. Since protein molecule can produce photochemistry reaction under sunlight, silk can only be air-dried in cool place instead of direct sunlight.
-
It should be ironed when it is 80% dried. Direct spray should be avoided. It is the inside of it that should be ironed and the temperature should be controlled between 100 to 180 Celsius degree.
-
It should be cleaned, air-dried, folded, and enveloped by a piece of cloth before it is put away in the cabinet. Camphor ball or mothball should not be applied when preserving silk cloth. When exposed in an environment of polycyclic aromatics, the protein of silk fabric will also turn yellow. When permitted, some natural aromatic plants can be used to dispel moth and prevent molding.
