EARLY NEAL ADAMS' DEAD MAN!
These NEAL ADAMS issues have been gaining momentum, and value, as fans recognize this period as having great storylines and stellar artwork, and these 12-cent issues by the inimitable Neal Adams are going nowhere but up!
THIS IS AN IMPRESSIVE HIGH-GRADE COPY, WITH EXCELLENT EYE APPEAL AND GREAT GLOSS AND SUPPLE WHITE PAGES. IT'S STILL ALL ATTACHED AT BOTH ORIGINAL FACTORY STAPLES, AND HAS BRILLIANT COLORS!
This well-preserved Arizona Copy looks Near Mint at first glance. It's bagged and boarded, in an ARCHIVAL MYLAR SLEEVE WITH ACID-FREE BACKER BOARD; Plus of course, each item is securely-boxed, with plenty of protective packaging material.
This book is well known to fans and dealers alike, as a hot early Adams issue featuring one of the best covers of the entire long run (Strange Adventures was DC's first sci-fi title, eventually evolving to introduce and spotlight this fan-fave mysterious horror-hero, Deadman; This was one of his earliest appearances, as his debut was in #205, and Adams stint on the series commencing just two issues before this one. It has a truly classic cover coupled with the timeless artwork of Neal Adams inside the issue as well, also by the living legend himself, Neal Adams. Deadman's appeal has grown over the years into a major pop culture property known around the globe; who knows when he'll appear in a big-budget film?! It doesn't get much more "Blue Chip" than this!
This key first-issue is from my personal collection, and I've had it in Mylar since the mid-nineties as it's nestled safely with me, right here in the Phoenix valley. Comic-books from my personal collection are unrestored and tend to have great eye-appeal. I have been an avid collector, with a discriminating eye, since my childhood, buying, reading, and trading comics throughout the seventies. When I became a dealer in the eighties, and was a regular on the convention circuit, I gained access to more comics than ever and collected numerous types of paper collectibles: First-issues of the thirties through seventies, Pre-code horror, crime, sci-fi, and high-grade silver-bronze X-Men, original comic-art, Big Little Books, Werewolf/Wolfman items, and last, but not least, vintage comics that are very rare or have classic covers, plus Propanda, as well as the obscure, strange, oddball, underground, and unknown/white-space issues. Over the decades, I hoarded aside a nice assorted of items from each category, always stubbornly refusing to sell. I still collect such things, and heartily enjoy them; But I've grudgingly decided to part out some treasures in 2009, as space is at the breaking point. Each item is one I've cherished for between 10 and 35 years. I have always stored my items in an appropriate fashion: In cool, dry, dark, non-smoking environments, with stable temperature & humidity. Many years ago, when Mylars came on the scene, I switched them out of the polybags and into Mylar, and I utilize the true-archival backing from E. Gerber, genuine Acid-Free boards with calcium-carbonate buffer to ensure safe long-term storage. And YES: These are sent out to the auction-winner in their Mylar sleeves, and there is a hand-initialled red sticker on the back side of the archival backer-board designating this provenance. Plus of course, each item is securely-boxed, with plenty of protective packaging material.
This original first-print comic-book WILL find a new home, as the asking price is low and there is NO RESERVE!
This historic comic is a real find in nice shape, as most copies were read, and re-read, time and time again, and with the glossy pale blue cover, even the tiniest flaws or hint of soiling shows up easily. This copy is WAY above average; No big creases or writing or tape or detachments or tears or other obvious problems. It's got subtle light cover creases and some minor general edge wear, visible under closer examination, along with a small corner crease to the back cover. See the full-size version of our scan by clicking and enlarging the image. Note that our scanner makes it appear that there's vertical lines, running up through the right side of the logo, but there are no such light lines or scratches on the comic.
We are also now auctioning other nice vintage unslabbed and CGC comics, plus rare comic art; And we'll be offering hundreds of other collector comics in the next few months. Check out our ebay items regularly!
Famous Silver-Age DC's are heating up... A lot has happened with superhero comics in the last few decades since this beauty came out, adding more allure to the hotter issues such as this; so I don't suggest waiting around until these crucial books have gone through the roof.... Attractive specimens of this hot back-issue are always in demand, but are not always available in the market, especially with great gloss and rich colors and containing white pages like this!
This is a solid high-grade copy that you can actually carefully read and enjoy, or show and display proudly.
With demand that exceeds supply, premium prices can occur when a pretty unslabbed example such as this reaches the market.
Great cover colors; And the gloss is impressive, which must be seen in person to be appreciated. If you are a Deadman/live undead-ephemera collector, serious DC comics investor, or just a devout Adams collector, and prefer nice books but without paying a certification premium, then NOW is your brief window of opportunity.
The conservative Overall Grade is VERY FINE; --the large scan sums it up!
This bright 12-center is perfect for the fan who wants a 'real' copy, not a reprint, and still wants to be able to open it and enjoy the comic-book experience.
