John Hammond is described by music critics as one of the most talented white blues singers in American music, and one of the genre's most passionate interpreters. GOT LOVE IF YOU WANT IT is considered by many of his fans to be one of his finest recordings. It showcases Hammond's signature vocal rasp and formidable slide guitar talent, in particular on his cover of Son House or (some say) Robert Johnson's "Preachin' Blues."
This 1992 release also features a stunning version of Chuck Berry's "Nadine" that holds up well to the original, as well as "No One Can Forgive Me But My Baby," a sparse blues rake that was written specifically for Hammond by Tom Waits. In addition to excellent solo performances in Delta blues style, GOT LOVE IF YOU WANT IT also features a duet with blues legend John Lee Hooker and an appearance by Lil' Charlie And The Nightcats.
