Through the warm welcome by the Russian audiences and unexpected clashes with the Soviet authorities, Joel carved out a path through the then-Soviet Union that other Western rock acts would follow. As a souvenir from the monumental tour, KOHUEPT (Russian for "concert") encapsulates some unique performances that are a treasure for any true fan of the piano man. From the opening traditional Russian piece "Odoya," sung by the Georgian singing group Zhournalist, this is a very special performance. Leading from there into a brilliant rendition of the rocking "Angry Young Man," Joel takes command of the audience like a conquering general. Between-song translations of Joel's touching commentary adds to the drama of a stunning performance of "Goodnight Saigon." More contemporary Joel hits like "An Innocent Man," "Allentown" and "A Matter Of Trust" are thrown in amid the classics "Only The Good Die Young," "Sometimes A Fantasy" and "Big Shot." Finally, Joel appropriately closes with a cover of the Beatles' "Back In The U.S.S.R." and Dylan's "The Times They Are A Changin'."
