What You'll Get
This item is the new, unopened retail package of the Shure SCL2-K. The version offered in this auction is the black model, although we also have clear available in our other listings. The retail package includes the earphones, extra earpieces and carrying case. If you're looking for the Shure E2 or the E2C, these products have been discontinued by Shure. The SCL2 is the new, updated replacement for those older models.
About the Shure SCL2
Shure's SCL-series earphones are the new upgrade from the E-series models, which were originally designed for stage musicians who demanded in-ear monitors that both sounded good and blocked external sonic interference. The design worked—in fact, Shure phones pull this off better than any other in-ears I've tried onstage. Of course, it became clear pretty quickly that stage musicians weren't the only ones who wanted to take advantage of sound-isolating phones. Our experience bears this out--probably 99% of folks who buy Shure headphones from us are looking to use them with their iPods, on airplanes with a DVD player, on subways, etc. While the overall tone of these headphones will never be confused with the dead-on accuracy of Grados (that's unfair, though, because nothing touches Grado) it's a whole lot better than generic iPod earbuds, and it is also better than any other in-ear monitor I've tried. And, of course, there's the main reason people buy these phones: They block out external noise, whether you're on a subway or onstage, so that all you hear is the headphone signal.
Here's how they work: While many "noise-canceling" headphones use onboard electronics to cancel incoming ambient soundwaves, the Shure headphones use a much simpler principle: You stick them inside your ear, and the phones act like earplugs to block (rather than cancel) external noise. And because the headphones are so effective at blocking out most external noise, you can actually listen to them at a lower volume, which prevents further damage to your hearing. I say "further damage" because if you're like me, your hearing was permanently damaged long ago with years of being in loud bands, going to Who concerts, etc. But even if you never did damage your hearing, you'll appreciate the tonal improvement that comes from not overdriving your iPod to distortion-producing levels just to hear it above external street or airplane noise.
It should be noted that the tone of these relies on your ability to fit them properly in your ears. When fit properly, they boast a full low end and great clarity in the highs. When inserted improperly, they sound thin and weak. This is why Shure includes a whole bunch of extra earpieces with the headphones, so that with a little tweaking at the outset, you can get a great fit with any of the models they offer, no matter how big or small your ears are. In fact, if you already own a pair and find the low end lacking, it is unquestionably the result of poor fit, a situation easily remedied with a litte extra fiddling with the earpieces (we find ourselves recommending this remedy a lot--with fantastic results).
About Shoreline Music
Shoreline was the world's original online music store—we're even older than eBay, where you're reading this description. We ship over 40,000 orders a year, and we've been doing this for 14 years, so we know how to get your order to you quickly with a minimum of hassle.
| Domestic Shipping
Info |
| Shipping date |
All our orders ship within 1 business day. eBay does not report orders to us until midnight, and "business" days don't include weekends, so any order placed on a Friday will ship the following Monday. |
| Time in transit |
Our average delivery time for both First Class and Priority Mail is less than 3 business days after shipment (2.7 days as of September 2009). However, we recommend that you expect to wait about a week, just in case yours is that occasional package that takes a bit longer. Also, some of our heavier packages ship by Fedex Ground or UPS Ground, which can take up to a week. |
| International Shipping
Info |
| Shipping and other fees |
Our standard shipping method for overseas orders
is either USPS Express Mail International or USPS Priority Mail International. This costs around $20-$30 depending on the weight and size of the package. We don't use cheaper shipping methods because they
are not trackable, and nowhere near as fast as Express and Priority. Please
note that when you import goods from other countries, you will
likely be responsible for import duties and taxes. These import
duties and taxes are not included in the fee you pay us for shipping,
so be prepared to pay them when your package arrives. Please note
as well that it is illegal for us to misrepresent the nature or
value of our shipments, so we will ignore any requests to mark
your shipment as a "Gift". |
| Time in transit |
Our average delivery time by Express Mail International
is right about 6 days from the time of shipment (as of September 2009). However, please keep in mind that
your local customs office may delay delivery by up to one week. |
| Special notice for Canadian customers |
Our standard method for shipments to Canada is First
Class Mail International. We use this because it's nearly as inexpensive
as shipping domestically, and it avoids the exorbitant brokerage
fees charged by FedEx and UPS. However, First Class is not trackable, and Canadian Customs will occasionally hang onto these packages for—no exaggeration—an extra
2-4 weeks. We also ship to Canada by Priority Mail International (about 8 days) and Express Mail International (about 4 days), so please consider carefully before
choosing the slower shipping. |
| FAQ |
| Is this product new? |
Yes. Everything we sell on eBay is new and unopened,
and ships with the complete retail packaging. |
| What is your return policy? |
You can read the details of our return policy on
our regular website at shorelinemusic.com. |
| Do you combine shipping? |
Yes. Our extra-unit shipping charges are normally

corrected total with the click of a button. (for quick instructions how to do this, click here)
