Welcome To "I HAD ONE OF THOSE" Auctions
Where We Strive For 5 Stars!
Were pleased to offer an early cabinet card of Chauncey Olcott dressed in costume, "The Irish Tenor", taken by Donovan New York, image itself is 5 1/2" X 3 3/4", mounted to a 6 1/2" X 4 1/4" board. Chauncey Olcott born 1858-1932 was an American stage actor, songwriter and singer, born in Buffalo New York, helped along the way to become a Broadway star by Lillian Russell, and wrote and composed My Wild Irish Rose in 1899. Shown here with his "Co-Star" as shown in other famous photos, a large St. Bernard dog, with studded collar and nameplate on it. This same dog is shown in other photos with him, but were not aware of the dog's name. We found one such photo with this same dog that was dated 1899, so this cabinet card is somewhere around that same time. On the back of the card someone has taped the words to My Wild Irish Rose By Chauncey Olcott, this has done no damage to the card itself. Image is clear and sharp, no creases, minor age darkening, corners rounded just a bit, nice cabinet card overall, not only for the historic collector of Broadway, Opera, but also for the dog tag or license collector.
