The Tasco LaserSite is a state-of-the-art laser rangefinder capable of measuring distances with incredible accuracy.  It emits invisible, eyesafe, infrared pulses that are reflected off a selected target back to its receiving optics.  Sophisticated circuitry abd a high speed clock are used ti instantaneously calculate distances by measuring the time it takes for each pulse to travel from the rangefinder, to the target, and back.

The ranging accuracy is +/- 1 yard/meter.

The maximum range of the instrument depends on the reflectivity of the target.  The maximum distance for most objects is 800 meters/880 yards for Model LRF800.  However, if the object is highly reflective, the maximum range can be as much as 909 meters/999 yards.

The color, surface finish, size and shape pf the target are all variables which effect reflectivity and range.  For example, red is highly reflective and allows longer ranges than the color black which is the least reflective color.  A shiny finish provides more range than a dull one.  A small target is more difficult to range than a larger target.  The angle to the target also has an effect.  Shooting to a target at a 90* angle where the target surface is perpendicular to the path of the emitted energy pulses provides good range.  A steep angle provides limited ranging.
