Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
In this story of the dashed American dream, two migrant workers find themselves in trouble on a California farm. The strong, yet simple, Lenny wants nothing more than to hold the one he loves close to him. The fulfillment of his wish is also the beginning of his downfall in this moving tale. No tragic heroes have captured the American imagination like Lenny and George. The story's wistful humor, its harsh realities and the hidden beauty of the protagonists' dreams are beautifully captured in the rugged drawings and water colors by the artist-adventurer Fletcher Martin, who personally knew Steinbeck's California setting.
