Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Edgar Allan Poe
Poe's expertly crafted, dark and moody short stories are without peers. His revered works continue to exert a profound impact on the American short story, as well as Hollywood, which has produced many adaptations of his stories. His intelligent and imaginative approach to horror makes stories like "The Fall of the House of Usher," "The Gold-Bug" and "The Cask of Amontillado" compelling reading. A master of the form, Poe grips his audience and doesn't let go until the last word. Generations have heard the beating of the "Tell Tale Heart" and cowered as the pendulum swings nearer in the "The Pit and the Pendulum." All of Poe's classic works of short fiction are gathered in this 400-page volume which features ghoulish aquatints by William Sharp.
