Build Model Gasoline Engine for boat or aircraft, plans

Here is a project for making a substantial model gasoline engine that originally appeared in Model Making, published in 1919. The engine has a 1 inch bore and 1 inch stroke and could be fitted with a 3 1/2 inch flywheel or 14 inch aluminum aerial propeller, plus it was designed to operate on either gasoline or house illuminating gas with just a simple adjustment of the mixing valve.

While the actual machining is not difficult, the model maker will need the ability to make aluminum castings, or to modify the design so that it can be machined from solid stock. The author assumes some acquaintance with vintage two-cycle engine principles, but the engine is a straight-forward valveless ported design and can be built either air-cooled or with the cylinder water-jacketed. In addition, plans are given for making up spark plugs for this and other model gasoline engines.

I have reset the text in a clear, easy-to-read font and reprinted all of the original illustrations twice their original size. Altogether, there are 10 pages of illustrated text.
