Description
Offered here is a rare and beautiful antique British porcelain vase from the late 18th or early 19th century, 1790-1820. Most likely the porcelain made by Coalport and decorated by the Thomas Baxter studio, London, England.
Height: 5.75", 14.5 cm.
Stunning hard paste porcelain vase with gilt Prince of Wales feathers as handles on either side. The front with gilt ground panel hand painted in great detail with an array of flowers and foliage. The back side with brilliant gilt designs and borders.
Offered in very good as found condition, with some slight wear to gilt edges on handles and foot. No damage or repair. Probably originally with lid.
*The gilt decoration & floral vignettes applied post-firing, indicating a London decorating studio independent of the Coalport factory. The studios of Thomas Baxter are documented as buying Coalport 'blanks', or finished porcelain bodies without decoration. The quality of their studios work is of the highest calibre, and Baxter himself went on to work at the Flight, Barr, & Barr establishment in Worcester.
Much of the Baxter decorated porcelain bears groups of closely arranged flowers, unsigned but with it's origin usually indicated by the additional use of one or more of the characteristic gilt borders which seem always to have been used.
This fine antique British porcelain vase is a real collectors item and museum piece. Don't miss this opportunity to add this gem to your collection.
