What does "gauge" mean? - Gauge is a way of measuring the thickness of the steel. The lower the number the thicker and heavier the sink is. Generally, an 18 gauge or lower steel thickness is desirable for residential kitchens. 15 gauge is typically considered commercial grade and is becoming more prevalent in residential use.
