500mW WIRELESS-G USB adapter WARDRIVING kit w/ SMA jack

The Item

We are very excited about our newest product, the Rok500 from Rokland. As a long time seller and distributor of wireless networking equipment, we know what buyers are looking for in a long range wireless product. And we have created it with the Rok500 USB adapter which has a maximum output of 500mW as well as an RP-SMA connector so you can easily hook up a high gain external antenna to maximize your range. The Rok500 also has the ultra-sensitive Realtek 8187L chipset, and gives you outstanding range (note: there are adapters on the market using casing identical to this, be sure to read the description because the ones we have seen have the cheaper and less sensitive 8187B chip- there is a huge difference both in range and compatibility). It also comes with a convenient portable carrying case so you can easily take the adapter with you in your laptop bag (see picture).

You may be familiar with another high powered palm-style wireless adapter called the Alfa AWUS036H, which is the best performing standalone wireless adapter on the market today. We sell it, and it is our best seller. If you are looking for the best range at any cost, buy the Alfa. We have also seen a lot of Alfa "clones" spring up online and on eBay, adapters with a similar palm-style form factor that boast 500mw of output power. We have used a number of these clones, including the Gsky 500mw adapter, and found they do not work nearly as well as the Alfa, and in fact use a different and weaker chipset than the Alfa called the 8187B chipset. Our goal in desiging the Rok500 was to bring you an Alfa alternative that works better than all those clones out there. Does this adapter work better than the Alfa 500mw adapter? No, and neither do the clones you'll see in this same price range, even the ones that claim they do. But we realize at $50, the Alfa is too expensive for a number of users, and even overkill for some. That is why we have created the Rok500. With the Rok500 you get the highly sensitive Realtek 8187L chip, not the cheaper less sensitive 8187B version. So you get great receive sensitivity and full compatibility with various operating systems. The 8187L chip is plug and play in BT3 Linux for example. The 8187B chip found in clones is not. The 8187L chip is Kismac compatible. The 8187B chip is not (regarding Kismac it is important to note that while this does work with Kismac, you cannot install Mac device drivers and use this as a regular WiFi adapter with your Mac. If you do, it will no longer function with Kismac. This is a limitation of the USB support provided by the Kismac program- before buying this for use in Kismac, please contact for more details).

What also sets this USB device apart from other USB adapters, in addition to what is noted above, is that this has an RP-SMA antenna connector so that you can add an external antenna to boost your wireless range. And to make things better we are including a 5 dBi gain rubber duck antenna in the sale (comes with the adapter in the retail box). Also, this has a stunning 500mw output power. So if you are looking for a device to connect to an outdoor 2.4 GHz antenna, such as on a boat or an RV, this is a perfect solution. Because this is a USB adapter, it works on any computer (desktop or laptop) that has a USB port. In addition to working with the usual suspects (Win98SE/200/ME/XP), this also works with Windows Vista, Linux (kernel 2.6.6 and later) and Macintosh (OS version 10.4 and 10.5). This is plug and play in Backtrack 3 Linux. That being said, we should note that our technical staff can only provide advanced support for Windows operating systems. We can provide limited support for Mac and Linux. Mac drivers are not inlcluded and must be downloaded separately. ***ATTENTION*** some new laptops from manufacturers like Dell and HP no longer include a PCMCIA card slot. Up until now if you bought or planned to buy one of these laptops, there would be no way for you to get a wireless connection option with an external antenna connector. This has all changed with this kit we are offering. This will work on any PC with a USB port (laptop or desktop) and is especially ideal for folks whose laptops do not have a PCMCIA slot who need a long range wireless solution! We beleive that in the coming years PCMCIA cards will be a thing of the past. So even if your laptop has a slot, why not buy this kit- USB is the wave of the future and then you will be able to use this kit on any laptop you might purchase down the road.

This item is brand new in retail box. This adapter does not have a built-in antenna. Use the included 5 dBi gain antenna or any other antenna you may already have or get that has an RP-SMA connector on it. Windows and Linux drivers are included on CD, however the Mac drivers and instructions are not. Mac users, please contact us after the sale to receive driver and instruction download information.

Shipping Options

Orders will generally be shipped the same or next day after payment is received. Periodically if we are experiencing unusually high order volume, your order may not be shipped until the second business day after payment is received, but this is not usual. We offer both UPS and US Postal methods of shipping as described below.

US 50 States + Puerto Rico: $2.95 US Postal Standard Mail. This includes delivery confirmation and insurance. According to the US Postal Service, Standard Mail takes can average 2-7 delivery days to arrive. This is not a guaranteed transit time though, it is just an average delivery time and will vary based on your proximity to our Florida shipping location.

US 50 States + Puerto Rico: $5.00 US Postal Priority Mail. This includes delivery confirmation and insurance. According to the US Postal Service, Priority Mail takes an average of 2-3 delivery days to arrive. This is not a guaranteed transit time though, it is just an average delivery time.

US 48 States: $8.50 UPS Ground Service. This includes insurance and tracking. This rate is only for bidders in the Continental US. We do ship to Alaska/Hawaii and APO/FPO but it must go via the US Postal Service so please take a look at a US Postal option. If you need the item shipped via an expedited method like 2nd Day Air, please inquire with your zip code for rates before bidding. UPS Ground can take from 1-7 days or longer depending on your proximity to our shipping location which is in Florida. UPS can take longer than US Postal Service Priority Mail, but UPS tracking tends to be updated more often than Postal Service tracking, and UPS tracking typically posts an estimated delivery date online within 12 hours after shipping, where as US Postal Serivce tracking does not.

International Shipping Rates and Information: International bidders must inquire for shipping costs before bidding. This is for your benefit because sometimes the cost can be very expensive. With most all of our items we have more than one available, so do not worry about the product selling out before we respond- please email us for a rate quote. International bidders must also accept all International shipping terms posted at the end of this auction description.

Payment Details

United States bidders: Payment can be made via PayPal. We can also take credit card orders directly (details for direct credit card payment will be emailed to buyer at the time the sale is processed by our staff). New Jersey bidders please add 6% sales tax to the final auction price. Payment must be made in full before we ship.

Accepted International Payment Methods: For international payment, we accept PayPal. Due to restrictions of our merchant processor, we are not able to take credit cards that do not have a USA billing and shipping address.

GENERAL NONPAYMENT POLICY- Remember that your purchase is a contract to pay for the item. Please don't click the "Buy Now" button unless you will pay for the item. Payment is due within seven days from the end of auction. If you have a problem completing the auction, please communicate with us. Please make sure this is the item you want before buying as once an auction is won or purchased unfortunately because of nonrefundable eBay listing and feature fees we are unable to accomodate cancellations (exception- if you buy the wrong type of adapter for your computer, such as a laptop card when you meant to buy a desktop card, we can switch your order to the correct type).

The Guarantee/Auction Terms

The following is our return policy. We are not able to make exceptions to this policy so please read carefully before making a purchase. While we would grately appreciate your business, if you are not in full acceptance and agreement with these terms unfortunately at this time you are not eligible to bid or select "buy it now" on the auction. Bidding or selecting "buy it now" on this or any of our auctions constitutes full acceptance and agreement with all of our auction terms including our return policy.

At Rokland, our products are guaranteed to work for 30 days. Additionally, we want customers to be able to return products that they don't want, don't like, or did not mean to buy. That said, we do incur costs for each return, such as the nonrefundable eBay listing and feature fees. If an item returned was new, we must resell it for much less money as a used open box item. Therefore, we charge a minimal 10% restocking fee on all returned items (new and used), except for products that test defective upon receipt back here. We believe this is a fair policy as most eBay sellers do not allow for any non-defective items to be returned at all, and the ones that do typically charge a 20% restocking fee. Again, this 10% restocking fee will be applied to all returns except where a product is reported to us as defective and tests defective upon receipt back here (if the product you return is defective we can send a replacement at our expense or issue a refund of the item price, whichever you prefer). A restocking fee WILL be charged even in the event a product does not work on your PC due to incompatibility or a conflict with another piece of hardware on your system, so long as the product is not defective. We can work with you to troubleshoot the problem if you have any difficulty getting it to work. We will not charge a restocking fee if you wish to exchange a non-defective product for something else, however a new shipping charge will apply for the new shipment.

While we would certainly appreciate your business, if you feel that a restocking fee would not be acceptable in the event you want to return a non-defective product to us, please do not make the purchase. If you do wish to return a product, please contact us for an RMA number and return address instructions. In addition to the restocking fee (which will be deducted from your refund), shipping and return shipping expenses are not refundable under any circumstance unless we ship you the incorrect product. In the event we send the wrong item, we will send the correct one to you at our expense and also reimburse you for your return shipping of the incorrect product.

There are no other warranties on this auction, expressed or implied. The exception to this is if the description states there is a manufacturer's warranty. In this event the item should be returned to the manufacturer in accordance with that warranty if necessary.

INTERNATIONAL BUYER & SHIPPING TERMS

As noted in our shipping section, we do ship many items outside of the USA. However we do not ship all items outside of the USA, and are not able to ship to ALL countries. If you are not located in the USA, please email us to find out if we ship to your country and also to find out what the available shipping methods and costs are. Then please continue reading this agreement as these terms must be accepted in order for you to place a bid or select "buy it now".

1. Customs duty and tax: Many countries will charge the recipient import tax on items purchased on eBay. We do not have knowledge of which countries charge tax and how much it could be. Customers are advised to contact their local postal or tax offices prior to bidding. Rokand is not responsible and will not reimburse international buyers for taxes charged on delivery. Rokand cannot mark items as gifts, lower the value of the goods on the customs form, or engage in any other modification to assist in the lowering or elimination of valid taxes.
2. Insurance and proof of shipment: Items sent outside the USA are insured. US Postal Regulations state insurance covers only the cost of the product, and does not cover the shipping charge. When you inquire for shipping rate quotes, we will advise you of the average time frame for delivery. If your product has not arrived within 21 mailing days of shipping, please contact us so we can trace the package for you. All parcels are sent with tracking and tracking information is provided to the customer at the time of shipment. If your package is lost in transit, we will file an insurance claim on your behalf. The US Postal Service requires that all insurance claim filings include a signed letter from you, the recipient, stating you have not received the parcel shipped to your address. This is a requirement and the letter can be faxed to us, scanned and emailed, or sent through Postal mail. We cannot issue any refunds for lost packages or ship any replacements without this letter. If you select a replacement, we will pay to ship it to you. If you select a refund, you will be refunded only the price of the product, as noted above US Postal Regulations do not allow us to insure the cost of the postage.
2. Returns: Buyers outside the USA may return products in accordance with our above advertised return policy. It is important to note that shipping and return shipping are NEVER refundable, with the sole exception of a case where we ship the wrong product (example: you buy a wireless adapter and we send a keyboard by mistake).
