Up for auction is a lovely original piece by Carl Weber. It is a scene with a cottage on a lake and some boats.

The framed piece measures 30 1/2" by 16 3/4", the actual exposed painting (not matted) 22" by 9 1/2". The attractive gold frame is 1 1/2 " wide and is in very good condition.  The painting is under glass. There is some discoloration in the sky area over the boat.  I don’t know what this is...could be dirt, other staining, I don’t know. The other half of the painting, the side with the signature is in great shape, so I don’t know if you would want to cut the piece and frame the piece in that size, if you are unable to remove the staining.  I will tell you all I know on the history.  My grandmother purchased this painting at an auction (at that time it was sold as an "original") about 35 years ago.  The auction was held in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  We are very rural up here, however as in any area, there are pockets of extreme wealth.  Anyway, my grandmother gave it to my mom about 30 years ago because it would look better in my mom's house.  Many years ago, my mother's friend (an art collector) noticed the painting, he also said it was indeed an original and at that time advised her to remove the paper backboard and to cover the back with acid free tissue paper, he felt the old board would "leech" into the painting and cause damage given time. (Maybe the “leeching” caused the stain?) My mom doesn't even remember heeding his advice, but I see the tissue paper, so she must have done as he suggested. I did contact two large New York auction houses and they agreed it is indeed an original, but only are interested in “perfect” pieces. They actually thought it is a lovely piece and would do well on E-bay.

Buyer to pay shipping of $20 for anywhere in the U.S. (Alaska and Hawaii would be extra.)  It will be shipped by Federal Express. I will ship it the day of or the day after receiving payment.  Fed Ex usually guarantees 3 business day service.  It will automatically be insured for $100.  If you would like more insurance, that is at your option and added expense.

Please e-mail me with any additional questions prior to biding.  Happy bidding!

Q: Any chance you could take it out of the frame and take photos of the front and back of the painting? It is impossible to know what's there with it under the glass and that backing paper. What auction houses... Continue reading
A: Yes, I will try and do that either tonight or tomorrow and post the pictures. The auction houses were Sotheby's (from there response, they do not like to handle items that would bring in less than $5000- and which the... Continue reading
