Lyn Hejinian is one of the most integral of the Language Poets, an avant-garde movement associated with poets such as Susan Howe, Michael Palmer, Ron Silliman, Barrett Watten, Ray DiPalma, Bruce Andrews, Rae Armantrout and others. This vein of American poetry is heavily influenced by Gertrude Stein, Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams, Louis Zukofsky, Charles Olson and Robert Creeley.
