What is Thai Silk from Sue's Silk? Thai silk from Sue's Silk is hand-loomed from silkworm’s cocoon. Thai silk is the least allergenic of all natural fibers. Several strands of thread are used to weave into fabric, recognized by 2 ply, 4 ply, or 6 ply. Silk has a reputation of being the most luxurious of all natural fibers.
How do you know it is a fine quality silk?
(1) Thai silk is recognized by its pure, natural sheen and luster. A lower grade silk is pale white in color, attributed to bleaching and chemicals in production. It lacks the natural quality.
(2) Touch Thai silk is soft, smooth, and has an excellent elongation (elastic recovery). An inferior silk feels course and uneven, due to fragments of damaged cocoons and waste filaments.
(3) Smell Silk with foul, oily smell is inferior in quality
(4) Flexibility and Elastic Recovery Grade A Thai silks have more flexibility and superior elastic recovery.
How to Care for Your Silk? Dry clean or hand-washed. No washing machine. If hand-washed, use the mildest soap in a lukewarm water. Woolite or equivalent is ok. Only small amount of soap is needed. No soaking. Rinse the silk in the water with a table spoon of white vinegar added and rinse again in cool water ( not too cold). Always hang silk in the shade to dry, never leave crumpled or creased while wet. Ironing while it still damp and iron on the underside.
