Thumbelina
An old woman wishes for a beautiful little child. The wish fairy gives her a bag of magic barleycorn and a set of instructions to follow. Lo and behold, the plant yields a beautiful flower, and asleep in the petals is the tiniest most beautiful little girl the woman has ever seen. The woman loves her little child dearly and sets her to sleep in a big tulip petal in a saucer of water where no harm can come to her. And there she stays sad and lonely until she decides to go on a journey to find someone to love.

The Flying Trunk
Sven, the storyteller, has a rich father who is so miserly he doesn't even give money for a pair of shoes. The day comes when Sven's father dies and he inherits all his riches. Sven throws generous parties for all his friends and gives lots of his money away. He gets his trousers made from gold and the ceiling in his house painted with a gold leaf. Soon he realizes that he is penniless. His friends don't want to know him anymore, and all that remains of his riches is a worthless old trunk. What will he do now?
