I'm pleased to offer this choice specimen of Calcite with Hemimorphite from the Ojuela mine, Mapimi, Durango, Mexico. The specimen measures approximately 3 x 2-1/2 x 2 inches and features an atypically DARK goethite matrix with many gemmy discoidal calcite crystals to over an inch with sharp, terminated hemimorphite crystals. Very, very minor aurichalcite is present as well. This piece is in excellent condition though the major crystal has a small nick along one edge. I haven't tried to hide this with a swab of acid or mineral oil but this could be done to hide the tiny white mark and make it appear as a natural notch.

This is from new specimen mining within the Ojuela mine. I've long been a calcite nut and the Ojuela mine is currently producing some very, very fine calcite specimens. Good calcite specimens have never been at that common from the mine for two reasons, in my opinion. First, the local miners have always been interested in collecting specimens that could bring in more dollars. Calcite vs. adamite or calcite vs. wulfenite...hmmmm, guess what they're going to collect!? Secondly, much of what they consider "low-interest" material is collected quickly and without much attention to careful collection procedures. I've seen literally hundreds of vibrant green conichalcite specimens with banged up calcite crystals on them that would have made superb specimens had the calcites not been banged up. But they were collecting the conichalcite and didn't particularly care about the calcite.

This specimen shows lustrous calcite crystals in association with clear hemimorphite crystals. Some of the hemimorphite crystals actually IMPALE the calcite crystals. The "backside" of the specimen shows very, very dark goethite that is much darker than normal. This makes for a very effective contrast in color and texture with the calcite and hemimorphite. The specimen has a natural base and has not been sawn. Much of the newer material is being sawn rather than trimmed. Also, there is some orange-red FLUORESCENCE on the bottom of the specimen---this is presumably massive calcite. The crystals DO NOT fluoresce.

This is a very fine calcite specimen from the Ojuela and much better than the norm for this prolific locality. It has great aesthetics, relatively large and gemmy crystals and is in excellent condition!

Please check my feedback and my other eBay items...thanks! All specimens are carefully wrapped, come with complete and accurate labels and are quickly shipped. As always, your complete satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteed. Quality specimens. Fast shipping and professional packaging. Reasonable shipping fees. A no-hassle money back guarantee with FREE return shipping on any item that fails to satisfy for ANY reason. Peace of mind. Buy with confidence---thanks for looking!
