Recorded in 1997 in the band's hometown of Los Angeles, ALIVE BEHIND THE GREEN DOOR captures the Irish-folk-punk band Flogging Molly at their fiery, passionate best. The band themselves admit to being uncomfortable in the studio, preferring the intensity and spontaneity of live performance as the true representation of the group's rollicking energy. This engaging live set is a case in point.
The amped-up jig of "Swagger" kicks off the proceedings, and crowd favorites "Laura" and "Lilah" are given fine readings. The crowd noise and audience participation will help listeners feel like they're actually there, and while the sound quality on ALIVE may not be up to the standards of some audiophiles, the trade-off is worth it given the band's full-throttle performance.
