A gratifying re-release of an early-1970s U.K. limited vinyl pressing celebrating the first Glastonbury Festival, this two-CD-plus-DVD period piece boasts live cuts from the Grateful Dead, Hawkwind, and the Edgar Broughton Band, as well as studio rarities by Pete Townshend and Marc Bolan. The pioneering pub-rock band Brinsley Schwarz is represented by a studio recording of Nick Lowe's "Love Song" (its headlining appearance at the festival had been disrupted by the arrival of the guru Maharaj Ji and his chanting followers), and Mighty Baby (the `70s incarnation of `60s mod band the Action, recorded live at the actual event) performs a blend of jazz and Motown called "A Blanket in My Museli" (sic). Interestingly, much of the footage on the accompanying DVD was filmed by the legendary director Nicholas Roeg.
