While Spector's "Wall of Sound" production technique often distracted listeners from the technical shortcomings of other singers, Darlene Love was more than capable of displaying her undeniable virtuosity in the face of Spector's epic productions. SO MUCH LOVE: A DARLENE LOVE ANTHOLOGY provides a comprehensive overview of Darlene's considerable store of non-Spector related material, including her excellent early sides with the vocal group the Blossoms, a few tracks that find her contributing soulful leads to tunes by Dick Dale's Del-tones, and a handful of previously unreleased recordings that compare favorably with her finest work.
