Popeye first appeared in the 1929 daily comic strip, Thimble Theater, and quickly became a sensation. The pipe-puffing sailor caught the attention of animator Max Fleischer in 1933, and he made his screen debut in a 1933 Betty Boop short. From there, Popeye became an enduring star in his own right. This 2-DVD edition contains 34 Popeye shorts from both the Fleischer and Famous Studios periods, including "Sinbad" (1936), "Ali Baba" (1937), and "Aladdin" (1939). These he been digitally restored and remastered from the best materials available.
