A collection of 5 vintage, CBG Mignot, Roman Foreign Legion, lead soldiers. Made in France. Unknown age, but they belonged to my grandfather, George Patrck Welch, a noted Roman scholar and historian: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Patrick_Welch 

I believe he got them in the early sixties or, perhaps, earlier. He was stationed in Cairo during WWII, and was a colonel in the Korean War. He wrote a book called "Britannia" in 1963 about the Roman occupation of Britain. he may have been given these as a gift then. They are in good shape except for one soldier missing his head. Maybe it was lopped off by a barbarian...

They are approximately 2 1/4" or 6 cm high and are solid lead and hand painted.
