Panasonic CF-61 mostly working for parts or repair
Here is a vintage 1996 laptop, the Panasonic CF61.

I know, 1996 is calling and they want their computer back!

The configuration number is CF-61DJC4AAM, dated November 1996. Auction is for the laptop only, no power adapter is included. I will charge the battery before shipping. Look on the internet for specifications. This laptop does not have a modem or ethernet port.

Has a pentium 120, 48mb of memory, and a 2gb hard drive with windows 98 loaded. No media is included.

This laptop shows some wear, look at the pictures. The LCD looks nice, but does have some spots that are slightly darker. Probably expected on such an old unit.

The battery seems to be pretty good for such an old machine. After an hour of playing with it on battery power, it still registered more than 50 percent.

There are two main issues with this laptop.

First, there is some missing pieces and possibly some damage on the rear where a fan is hanging loose. This fan still works, and was held in with electrical tape. I removed the tape to show the damage. You will either want to get the missing parts, or tape it back again.

The other issue is with the internal cd-rom unit.

This laptop has a unique cd unit that is hidden under the keyboard.

Sliding the eject button under the keyboard is supposed to cause the keyboard to rise, and a cd tray to slide out from under the keyboard.

Unfortunetely, this does not work. It just makes some groaning noises when the eject button is activated.

However the cd unit does seem to read correctly if a manual load is done.

A manual load is possible by removing the floppy drive, and turning a wheel exposed under the floppy drive which raises the keyboard. Then a screw on the back next to the broken fan is turned to loosen the mechanism. Finally, the rubber cover over the headphone port is removed, and a tool is used to slide the mechanism to the right. This causes the cd tray to eject. Load your cd and then reverse the steps.

The battery seems to work, and hold a good charge. The battery is not guaranteed.

The floppy drive seems to work fine.

Here is a screen shot of memtest86 loaded off a boot floppy disk. This disk was for testing only and is not included.

When booting to bios, a 301 keyboard error comes up, but does not prevent getting into the bios. The numlock key seems to stick. As an old vintage laptop, it is not guaranteed, but does appear to sort of work.
Get a nice nearly working vintage laptop for cheap! Remember auction is for the laptop only, no ac adapter is included. Due to the rear fan and broken cd-rom, this is an as-is sale.
