2 antique cobolt blue MA & CT food extracts bottles

This sale is for a set of 2 antique purple colored glass food extracts bottles.

The first one measures approx. 5" (12.7 cm) tall by 1 7/8" (4.75 cm) wide and is written on one side "THE DIRECT COFFEE CO – BENEFIT BRAND EXTRACTS – BOSTON, MASS.”; it’s in nice condition with no chips or cracks but it does have a hazy surface as it is likely a dug bottle.

The second one measures 5 3/8” (13.65 cm) tall by 1 7/8” (4.75 cm) wide and is written “THE WILLIAMS & CARLETON CO. – HARTFORD, CONN.”, it’s in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. Both bottles are BIMAL bottles (Blown in the mold applied lip).

They have been irradiated to give them their beautiful deep purple color (an artificial process that turns antique clear glass in a beautiful deep amethyst/purple colored glass, it is about the equivalent of decades of glass overexposure to the ultra violet rays of the sun; the manganese which is one of the key ingredients that they used to take to get clear glass prior to 1910 reacts and becomes dark amethyst/purple in color, actually very few bottles have manganese in them and most are over 100 years old. Please take note that the color is not flashed on the glass nor applied, it is derived from the natural chemicals in the glass.).

To the best of my knowledge, these bottles date back to the late 1800's early 1900's. Thank you.
