cultural heritage ebay auctions!

Please read all of the description notes before bidding!

In This Auction: You are bidding for 4 copies of J.D. Salinger novels. They are Catcher in the Rye, Nine Stories, Franny and Zooey, and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour an introduction. Two of the books in this auction are true first edition;first printing. They meet all required edition points. The two copies that are first edition is the Cather in the Rye, and Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour an introduction. The Nine Stories book is a book club edition copy, nothing special about that. Franny and Zooey is a first edition;second printing copy with first edition dust jacket of $4.00 so as the copy Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour an introduction.

The Cather in the Rye in this auction is a true first edition;first printing with the first edition statment on the copyright page with no other printing remarks follow it. The Dust jacket for this book however is a FACSIMILE! An exact duplication of the original dust jacket but NOT a real dust jacket. This copy is in good to very good condition. There are two main problem with this book. One is the rip that you see in the cloth at the bottom end of the book Please refer to the 7th photo abover for more detail. second is the general dust and handleing accumulate throughout the years. Other than these two flaws the book is very good condition. This copy has an original signature written on the first free leaf of the book, again please refer to the photo above for detail. No other marking can be located in this particular book. If you require more photo please let me know.

Nine Stories is a book club edition copy. nothing special, good decent size book with no marking, clean and tight binding.

Franny and Zooey is a first edition;second printing copy in excellent shape with the $4 dust jacket and price unclipped. No marking, binding still very tight, and pages are clean.

Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour an introduction is a true first edition;first printing copy with the $4 dust jacket. The dust jacket have some flaws. a rip in the center of the dust jacket visable on the photo above and some foxing to the back side of the jacket. The book itself is very good. The title on the spine has been completely rubbed off from the book as you can tell in the photo above. There's also a previous owner book plate in this particular book. No marking in this book, binding are very tight and pages are clean.

Author Background Jerome David "J. D." Salinger (pronounced /ˈsælɪndʒər/; is an American author, best known for his 1951 novel The Catcher in the Rye, as well as his reclusive nature. He has not published an original work since 1965 and has not been interviewed since 1980.
Raised in the Bronx, Salinger began writing short stories while in secondary school, and published several stories in the early 1940s before serving in World War II. In 1948 he published the critically acclaimed story "A Perfect Day for Bananafish" in The New Yorker magazine, which became home to much of his subsequent work. In 1951 Salinger released his novel The Catcher in the Rye, an immediate popular success. His depiction of adolescent alienation and loss of innocence in the protagonist Holden Caulfield was influential, especially among adolescent readers.[1] The novel remains widely read, selling around 250,000 copies a year.
The success of The Catcher in the Rye led to public attention and scrutiny: Salinger became reclusive, publishing new work less frequently. He followed Catcher with a short story collection, Nine Stories (1953), a collection of a novella and a short story, Franny and Zooey (1961), and a collection of two novellas, Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction (1963). His last published work, a novella entitled "Hapworth 16, 1924," appeared in The New Yorker on June 19, 1965.
Afterward, Salinger struggled with unwanted attention, including a legal battle in the 1980s with biographer Ian Hamilton and the release in the late 1990s of memoirs written by two people close to him: Joyce Maynard, an ex-lover; and Margaret Salinger, his daughter. In 1996, a small publisher announced a deal with Salinger to publish "Hapworth 16, 1924" in book form, but amid the ensuing publicity, the release was indefinitely delayed. He made headlines around the globe in June 2009, after filing a lawsuit against another writer for copyright infringement resulting from that writer's use of one of Salinger's characters from Catcher in the Rye.[2]
