Description

We are pleased to be offering this beautiful French Victorian carved double beveled glass door bookcase to you today. Dating 1880's to 1890's, this piece is pretty much all mahogany with two wood sides, and the previous owner refinished this beautiful double door bookcase. It is an outstanding setup, with TWO ADJUSTABLE shelves that have drawers in them, and then two adjustable wooden shelves by themselves with numerous notched heights where you can put them. Aside from the amazing adjustable drawer- shelves, this piece features double beveled glass doors with the bevel exposed 1-inch wide (so it has a really notable and pretty beveled glass). The actual bookcase itself is 40 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 88 inches high. It has carved columns coming down both sides, the same style carving goes across the front of the crest, a beautiful hand carved old crest on top with two outside finials and the overall condition is good. The inside of the shelves themselves are 11 inches deep. The overall condition of the bookcase is really good. The lock works a little dry, and we can never guarantee the locks, as they usually need to be cleaned and oiled in order to work properly. There is a little bit of a bow down the right hand door, but it does close tight. You can see from the old days that on a few of the shelves, it has a few little bore worm holes, which are probably from old French worms before it got shipped overseas, many of the foreign items do have these, and is no big deal. The cabinet itself is really very nice, it is very hard to find a bookcase like this nowadays and we are pleased to be offering it today!
