Description
We are pleased to be offering this tiger sawn oak dining set to you today. Dating from the 1930’s, this set consists of a draw-leaf dining table with big bulbous legs, a gorgeous step back leaded glass door china cabinet with six total carved faces, an extra large carved four door sideboard with carved faces on the backsplash and on the doors along the beautiful flower carvings and a set of six sturdy and stout stylish chairs.
All of the pieces retain their original finish, with only the few little nicks and dings here and there that come from age. On the top of the sideboard you can see there is a scratch about 2 ½ inches long that has been filled it in with some type of wood filler, and in a few little spots here and there—but we are very picky to notice these things, and overall the set is in very nice original condition.
The set of six chairs feature fluted legs, solid H cross-stretchers, wonderful cut out backsplashes and red vinyl seats, which remain in great condition. The size of the chairs is 18 inches wide, 17 inches deep, 38 inches tall and 20 inches high to the seat. This is a great looking set of six that are all tight and sturdy. We will also double check to make sure they are tight before shipping, to ensure that you end up with the best possible chairs!
The next item is a draw-leaf table. It comes with a draw-leaf on each end of the table. Measuring 23 inches long on both sides, when you pull out both leaves, the table becomes a total of 108 inches long, which is like a banquet table! When it is closed up and the leaves are tucked underneath, it is 62 inches long, 36 inches deep, and 31 inches high. Of course the pull out leaves that you see in the pictures are tiger sawn oak but are not a parquet top like the center tabletop is, but that is not atypical in anyway. The tabletop is checkerboard parquet, with a cross grain outside frame, and a multi-molded beveled edge. It sits upon large, fluted shoe-foot bulbous type legs. This is a gorgeous table that we have sold many times in the past the $1400-$1600 range. It is a beautiful all original dining room table in its matching set!!!
The next item is a step back china cabinet. It features stained glass doors on top with the green tinted glass and etched glass detail with a white stripe down through the center. On the columns and in the center of the cabinet are detail carved heads. This is a gorgeous oak and tiger sawn oak cabinet, and the multiple beveled edges on the base and along the top, the fluted columns, the big bulbous legs and the fancy carved trim are all features that are indicative of a high quality piece. The overall size of the cabinet itself is 54 inches wide, 21 inches at the base, the top section of the china closet is 13 inches deep, and the overall height is 65 inches, with the height of the base being 29 inches. Behind the glass doors are two shelves, offering lots of storage space for you!
Finally, we have the MASSIVE sideboard. What a piece of furniture! This piece is very, very large, measuring 90 inches long, 23 inches deep, 39 inches high to the top of the base cabinet, 49 ½ inches high to the top of the backsplash. It is a double shelf backsplash—a lot of people sell these separately as a clock shelf for large homes, and they usually bring a lot of money. The sideboard itself has four picture frame moldings, with the outside doors having lady and gents head carving. Behind the lady’s storage compartment, there are two pull out drawers and a shelf with extra storage space! Open up the left hand side door, behind the man’s carved head, to find a large storage area with the a center shelf. The sideboard has the same big, bold bulbous legs in the base just like the table, china closet and chairs. The tiger sawn oak is gorgeous. The condition is really nice, like I said; there is just has a little scratch on the top of the sideboard. Notice the hardware on the sideboard and on the china closet—the big pewter colored hinges with the keys still intact. The locks actually work, and though we never guarantee locks to work, these all seem to be all working. You could take these doors off folks, and hang them up in your house as a work of art with the carvings and the heads on them.
So, here it is. It is a nine-piece tiger sawn oak set from the 1930's in original untouched condition, which is really, really first-rate and original. You are bidding on all nine pieces at once: the six fancy chairs, the beautiful parquet banquet table, the step back leaded glass carved head china closet and the stupendous excessively large carved sideboard all for one money. Enjoy the auction, have fun. “Buy it now,” and we guarantee that this set will be delivered before Thanksgiving no matter where you are in the 48 states!
