Super high quality and important historical Roman reproduced standard. Historical reproduction of Romes lost Legion XVIII standard commemorating the 2000th anniversary of Rome's loss of three legions under the command of Publius Quinctilius Varus in 9 AD in the Teutoburg forest near Kalkriese Germany to Arminius, also know as Hermann to the Germans. This is the one and only Legion XVIII standard to be used at both the Lafe Roman Fort and 9AD battle re-enactment in Arkansas and again at the New Ulm 9AD battle re-enactment in Minnesota. The latter one was filmed for a documentary. This legion number will not be repeated by me, so this single Legion XVIII Roman standard is a one of kind standard made to honor Romes three lost legions. It was used at Americas only two events commemorating this historical battle which reshaped the future of Europe. It is toped with a brass laureate which surrounds a hand or manus to the Romans. The manus or hand is used more then any other symbol on top of standards and is believed to have influence the Roman military word maniple. The hand is made of silvered brass. The vexillum flag is two layers of 100% red wool with 100,000 gold metal stiches making the figure of the bull. The bull is associated with Augustus and the legions he started. There are three silvered brass phalerae decorated disk below the flag and a scaled bowl of silvered brass below that. The butt spike is brass in this case and the pole is hard ash wood. Own a piece of history commemorating a piece of history. Price is $1285 plus $39 shipping in two box's in the continental USA.
