Synopsis
Ecological whiz-kid Tom Szaky recounts how the amazing guerrilla business enterprise he ran from his dorm room at Princeton evolved into a multi-million dollar company that is enacting positive change on a global scale by transforming worm droppings into hard cash. Szaky is the co-founder and current CEO of TerraCycle, a company which, among other services, converts garbage into usable materials by filtering it through a worm in a remarkable process straight out of a science fiction novel. The first step is to collect millions of hungry worms, and allow them to devour the edible portions of our garbage. After nature takes its course, TerraCycle takes over, liquefying their leavings into a fertilizer, which is then packaged in recycled plastic bottles that the company collects. Major retailers such as Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and Target have gotten on board by carrying TerraCycle products, lending the impression that this is only the beginning for this unique business venture that is both beneficent and beneficial.
