Millefiori is a glasswork technique which produces a distinctive mosaic pattern on glassware.  The technique involves the production of glass canes or rods with multicolored patterns which are viewable only from the cut ends of the cane.  The cane is then heated in a furnace and pulled thin while maintaining the cross sections design, then cut into beads or discs when cooled.  Millefiori comes from the Italian words "mille" which means thousand and "fiori" which means flowers.
